" China, an opportunity" Seminar successfully held

The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) and the China Enterprises Association (Singapore) (CEA) successfully hosted a seminar themed " China, an opportunity" on 21st May. His Excellency Cao Zhongming, Ambassador of China to Singapore, attended and delivered the keynote speech. Mr. Koh Choon Keng, President of SCCCI, and Mr. Tan Zhiyong, President of CEA, respectively delivered the opening remarks. Over 120 participants, including representatives from Singapore Trade Associations, think tanks, media, and Chinese enterprises, attended the event.

Ambassador H.E. Cao Zhongming expressed confidence in China's sustained and stable economic growth, attributing it to the adherence to the new development philosophy, the vast advantages of its large-scale market, and its unwavering commitment to opening up to the world. Singapore, as one of the earliest and deeply engaged countries in China's reform and opening-up, will continue to explore new avenues of cooperation with China from a fresh starting point.

President Mr. Kho of SCCCI stated in his address that the friendship, economic and trade relations, and intergovernmental cooperation between Singapore and China are at a historical peak. Despite significant challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, and trade protectionism, the friendly relations and mutual trust between Singapore and China remain unshakeable. The future cooperation between the two countries holds many commonalities and complementarities, aiming towards a high-quality economic transformation and fostering closer cooperation.

In his remarks, President Tan Zhi Yong of ACES highlighted that this event marked Ambassador Cao Zhongming's inaugural participation in a business event jointly organized by the chambers of commerce of both Singapore and China since assuming office. The event received positive responses and assistance from various friendly chambers of commerce in Singapore and individuals from all walks of society. There is a broad consensus among the business communities in Singapore and China on the shared opportunities presented by China's development. ACES will continue to enhance communication and collaboration with government agencies and various sectors of society in both Singapore and China. Together with friendly chambers of commerce, ACES aims to build a platform to serve the cooperation between Singapore and China, as well as the businesses of both countries, contributing the strength of the chambers of commerce to share new development opportunities and jointly tackle new challenges, thereby facilitating high-quality development in the cooperation between Singapore and China.


Representatives from academia in Singapore and China discussed three main topics during the seminar: "The 30-year Development Journey of Suzhou Industrial Park and Its Implications for Sino-Singapore Cooperation", "The Positive Role of the New Land-Sea Trade Corridor in the Joint Construction of the 'Belt and Road' Initiative in the New Era", and "The Significance of Comprehensive Exchange and Cooperation between Singapore and Hong Kong in Promoting Regional Development". They also answered questions from the audience on-site.
